Hutch and Waldo is an Australian-inspired café in New York with mixed reviews for its coffee and food offerings. While many praise their quality coffee, generous avocado toast, and delicious breakfast options, the café struggles with inconsistent service and a cramped layout that can make ordering difficult. Mobile orders appear to be prioritized over walk-ins, creating a less relaxing in-person experience despite the appealing menu.

This feels like a dark kitchen despite trying to market themselves as a place you can pop in. We used to come regularly. However, we noticed that they always prioritize the mobile orders instead of prioritizing helping the people who have walked in and are waiting. One day, we ordered and waited a full 10 minutes with a baby in a stroller. Various orders came and went. No one bothered to check on us. Finally, we asked for a refund and planned to go somewhere else. At that point, they said they hadn’t started the order so could get to it (shocking that they would wait 10 min to start the coffee order). We said no, we’ll take the refund. Then, they said they refunded us but couldn’t print the receipt due to technical issues (another red flag?). We found it quite shocking a food and beverage establishment can’t print a paper receipt. We will not be coming back, but if we did, mobile order is the way to go, since this is clearly not a cute coffee shop where you can walk in and expect a relaxing experience.

The praise this restaurant receives is completely deserved. The people working here are as nice to see as they are to talk to. Fair pricing for quality food at this spot. Their flavors impress consistently. The restaurant provides everything needed.
