XPRESSO Café: A Stellenbosch Gem
Nestled in Eikestad Mall in Stellenbosch, South Africa, this compact café has gained popularity for its revolutionary one-price concept—everything on the menu costs just R12 (approximately $0.50). This affordable pricing strategy makes it a favorite among budget-conscious locals and visitors alike.
The menu features an impressive variety of options, including hot and cold coffee beverages, hot chocolate (which receives particular praise), and an assortment of sweet and savory pastries. Customers can enjoy croissants, doughnuts, pies, muffins, quiches, and sandwiches, with vegan options also available for those with dietary preferences.
The café operates primarily as a grab-and-go establishment, perfect for pedestrians seeking a quick refreshment while exploring Stellenbosch. Its central location makes it an ideal pit stop during shopping trips or city walks. While the space is compact, it offers both takeaway and dine-in options.
The atmosphere is casual, cozy, and trendy, attracting a diverse clientele including tourists. Modern payment options are available, including credit cards, debit cards, and NFC mobile payments, and the café features wheelchair-accessible entrance for improved accessibility.
Most patrons appreciate the exceptional value, quick service, and friendly staff, though during peak hours the café can get quite busy due to its popularity and attractive pricing.

XPRESSO Café is a tiny shop attached to Eikestad Mall and this review is simply to say that I really liked the concept of everything for one price – R12 (about $0.50). Despite that, the quality is the baking is very good – light and fluffy is perfect. The store is busy and popular, so it’s understandable that staff can get overwhelmed at times, but service is always friendly and polite.

Service here has always been way below average. The only employee who seems happy to be there and is friendly is the man making the coffee. Today i’ve had enough of these people after refusing to take payment of R1s worth of 20c(5 20 cents). 20 cents are very much still active in South Africa??? Your menu is R14 , do you expect card payments or paper money each time ? Don’t be ridiculous Edit: With response to the owners poor and quite embarrassing response. Expresso as a well known company in South Africa is too cheap to take cents because they fear bank charges ? Why is it the customers responsibility or even problem for YOUR bank charges. So the car attendees/guards in parking areas or people begging on the street who can afford a R14 coffee every now and then is now forced away because you’re too worried about bank charges to accept their couple of cents as payment? I pop in around 5 times a week, the barista's know my regular order down to the sugar content, they always have a smile, so I just pay, grab & go, no stress
